Long time no updates here comes all the updates again

first up the conclusion of my Kuching trip

The stuff I bought,
from left: Sarawak pearl necklace, 2 pieces of magnets, and a bag
Middle: balms and dunno what for MrK’s mom
Right: Laundry bag cute and big rite?

Handphone chains, all given to my lil sista…cute rite

at night walking around more and more….

and found the famous cat statue and

the famous hongkong noodle house

but I didnt take my dinner there because I wanted to eat at the Open air market I saw on the first day

here is what the surroundings like, open air and a little dirty , but very popular

I tried the local stuff, bamboo clams, a kind of fern, very sweet and juicy, i like this kind of vege

and the famous oyster omellete with a glass of lemon tea

Day 4 I walked around in the morning again, to find a nice place for breakfast

and i found this famous noodle shop at the recommendation of the guidebook, very popular and very crowded, waited nearly an hour for just a bowl of kway tiao and the pig’s soup with fishball but very yummy

not forgetting the lemon tea, sweet and sour at the right dose, really the best lemon tea i’ve had

This is a pic of the fern i’ve had the night before uncooked, cheap and good and cute

Lastly, on the last day, day 4, cos we left at early day 5
MrK and I decided to try the famous Hilton Hotel High Tea

Here are some pics of the spread

as seen, there is fried rice, pao, pizza, murtabak, bee hoon, dll etc, they all goes under the hot food category, there is also lamb, and beef i think and spaghetti, pasta etc, they have different kinds of fried rice, sambal and kampung, all the food quite good

then there is the salad bar, all different kinds of salad and even there is rujak, the same taste as the one in Indon not the one in singapore. with thick sweet sauce and fresh fruits.

and yup not to forget sandwiches, and even sushi, but i didnt take too many as there are still more to try

Lastly comes my ultimate favourite, the desserts, fortunately the desserts here is the mainstay, as in the main attraction, there is the various kinds of cakes, chocolate cream the one in the small glass is my favourite, strawberry and kiwi for those who loves sour stuff and puddings too and there is the creme bruleee too

and there is ice kachang too, handmade by MrK

needless to say, desserts are fantastic, oh of course there are some fruits too, but i am too lazy to take any pictures

but so are the decor, here are some pictures

and its cheap too only 42 RM for both of us inclusive of tax, in front of the hotel there is a gelato cafe, but the stomach was too full to try any of the tempting flavours because of the buffet.

so the end of my kuching trip travelogue, actually mine is done in a messy way, but I will improve next time, to be more up to date

While MrK went to Sarawak Cultural Village, I explored the main bazaar, withing walking distance from the hotel as well. Its a stretch of road selling all kinds of sarawak handicraft from pepper, kue lapis, bags, keychain etc

along the way I took some pics of Kuching city in the hot afternoon sun

I also visited the Chinese history museum for some aircon, wanted to go to Sarawak Museum as well as Cat museum, however I can never say I love to visit museum so I didnt go in the end.

the main bazaar area, filled with old shophouses, very quaint feeling

No photographs inside a shop, because some of them are really artworks handcrafted, I love the bamboo carpets but they were too expensive, maybe next time when I have my own house. so i took this pic from outside a shop

I had lunch at the main bazaar itself, some malay cafe selling buffet lunch n other sarawak food, I settled to try sarawak laksa with corn milk, basically just corn with very sweet soya milk even though i like both corn esp on my sushi and I love to drink soya milk, I dont like this combination, it just tasted weird. The Laksa, is full of taoge and prawns n its sour. Not my kind of food, oily and sour and the noodles, or maybe this shop just didnt do it right. oh well I got quite turned off so i didnt try anymore laksa in the next few days

The famous Chinese temple ard main bazaar. Its really a nice shade of red with detailed architecture

At night, MrK brought me to dinner at the famous chinese restaurant in Kuching, the Lok Thien restaurant, above it is another shanghai dimsum restaurant and below it is a Jap restaurant and thai restaurant, all quite notable in that area.

the very powerful Kuching guide 2007, the place where i took all my recommendations from esp on food

Here is what we ordered : Dumpling soup, some kind of Vege and suckling pig and some BBQ pao from the dimsum restaurant above, ended up too full to eat that pao. we also ordered MrK’s favourite : Yang chow fried rice.

the Dumpling soup is nice n fresh, remind me of the one I had in the hotel near Phuket, which reminds me I need to dig up my Thai road trip pictures, although I had shared some in this blog but I really need to write a proper travelogue bout that memorable road trip.

The Vege is done well, still crispy yet soft and flavourful, I am still not very good in describing or remembering vege name so bear with me. Esp because this is a chinese restaurant and since MrK dont really read chinese, ordering becomes at mercy of the waitress. We just asked for her recommendations

the Suckling pig is good too and best of all cheap, I dont remember much because suckling pig taste like that to me. I think gourmet food should be enjoyed in moderation so that it leaves u craving for more. Even though that night I ate lots of good suckling pig, I still craves for the on in Marina SQuare foodcourt, because I only eat a few slices there everytime I visited I am teased to come back for more.

The fried rice is a little oily so that leaves a little disappointment and there was no room for the bbq pork pao so I cant review it fairly.

At night, again we have difficulty finding cab, so we walked n walked and stop at this dewan bandaraya kuching selatan, a very nice building tower but it was too dark and we were only at the entrance and it was a huge complex so no matter how good my flash, nothing could be captured moreover, i didnt bring a tripod around so it was impossible to take a pic

will blog more tom about shopping malls and my buys

to start off, let me tell u some things about my trip to KUCHING

kuching, meaning cat, is only an hour plus away from SG, the airport is small but friendly, cab is 17RM to anywhere in the city, and the city is small, I think during my 5 days there I have covered most of the city, I didnt venture out because i was alone. Although given the chance I would have visited the bakau national park which has the Probosis monkey (monkeys with very long/ big nose and red in colour) other monkeys are usually brown rite?

and I would also have visited the Sarawak cultural village. NOnetheless I am quite happy with my first travel ‘alone’

oh well for the purpose of this blog, I always took picture of what I am eating, and Kuching is famous for 2 things, sarawak laksa and KOLO mee…you know that mee shop at the basement of VIVOCIty were saying their noodles are air-flown from Sarawak. Yeah there I was trying the real thing, fresh and not airflown

ok lets get started

on the first night, after buying sim card n stuff, I explored the hotel area, the KUCHING waterfront. its very cool at night, with food and hawkers selling the famous pearls from sarawak as well as the gambir, I dont know what this gambir is for yet, very eery piece of grass or plant that i didnt dare to ask

also alot is the sarawak lapis, a colourful slab of kue lapis, due to the colour and presentation I didnt dare to buy…nor take pic sorry

anyway some waterfront pic

actually I was walking n walking to the end to try and eat at the open air , this is how kuching peeps talk bout this place. In the end I didnt because all is Tse char style, I did try on my last night there though

so in the first night I ate with MrK at the far away place called Jalan sentosa or sth, very far and cabs at night at far away place is very hard to get, we r lucky to get home. but the food there is wonderful, rows n rows of food

so we decided to buy Kolo mee, very very nice and much nicer than the one at VIVO and sambal stingray (those of u who dunno, its my fave food) and a very sweet n juicy coconut, all cost less than 30RM, well stingray is fresh and good and a meal for two like that, its really worth it.

the next few days, MrK kept asking me to take him back there again

OK before I forget, I stayed at Holiday Inn Kuching. A very nice hotel, next to it there is a mall and so is opposite the road. its located right by the Kuching waterfront so its convenient to get food, cab and all the famous places are nearby, thus this solo trip was possible, I did not venture far from hotel usually
