People in Northern hemisphere have it good the past week, the magnificent Perseid showers come to them
there are beautiful pictures on Flickr all about the showers, its so big, that google changed their doodle picture on the homepage.
Meteor showers is a rare event, but the most magnificent among them all is the Leonid meteor showers.
Meteor showers are not to be confused with shooting stars too, for more information visit wiki, I am just documenting all the big astronomy events this year besides the 22July eclipse which I am still very sad about missing when China is so nearby and I can afford to go there if not because of the internship.
oh well I will show you guys some photos of the amazing corona taken soon.
Meteor showers are named according to the constellations they were close to.
whereas here in SG, The showers supposed to peak at 0130 today, which is a thursday. and on Wednesdays I have a 15 hours day, so I could not stay up to watch. However, from what I gather, there is nothing much that can be seen here, which is expected as we are just slightly above the equator. Plus we are highly known for our lights pollution.
oh well here is one picture to leave u mesmerised
btw, I am moving my blog to a private hosting service soon so that I can have more freedom in terms of themes and such, it is also a good learning experience for me to start a brand new website. Since this semester its a ‘relaxed’ semester.

back in My JC days, I joined the astronomy club, but it wasnt that fun cos there was nothing much except stargazing, we did not do star charts or anything, just pure stargazing to see stars and the moon. we did not keep track of exciting events like the Venus transit, or the lunar or solar eclipse
but now its different, I even have homework/projects requiring me to keep track of the sun and the moon
the first lunar visibility, where does it happen and such
and the exciting solar eclipse in chinese new year
and do you know that total solar eclipse only happens once in 400 yrs if u just stay in one place. so in singapore there is no way in my lifetime to see a total solar eclipse.
however, the next eclipse of the century, meaning the best eclipse you will see in your lifetime is happening soon in 22July 2003. why is it the best is because its a very long eclipse of 6 mins plus, the longest eclipse possible is 7 mins only
it will pass by china and india, northern part of myanmar and so on…
perhaps I will make a trip there to hangzhou or shanghai to see it, however even when u r there, doesnt mean u can experience it, need some luck too, esp if the sky is overcast, the effect will not be as dramatic
and as for venus transit, only happens once every 180 yrs, but the next one is happening in 7 yrs…
why the enthusiasm regarding astronomy that is my main topic in this post
firstly is because I found out that astronomy influences so many things in our life.
from the calendar we use, be it Julian, gregorian, islamic, chinese etc, the timezones
to the weather and other cultural decision, like when is the public holidays
to exciting happenings like the midnight sun and the seasons,
how does the moon and sun looks like in different places and how to choose ur next house to get the best value out of it
for the travel lovers, many more sites to visit, like the Greenwich observatory which everyone knows, to the ancient Beijing observatory, the Kennedy space centre, the North pole and other cold places to see the beautiful Aurora Boeralis
even in NZ, there is a town dedicated to stargazing, they keep everything very dark at night for maximum stargazing capability
so if u have not taken any science gem, i strongly advise u to take Heavenly Mathematics and Cultural Astronomy, its a very fun module and has a very fun lecturer
if u are not going to take the module u can still know alot of bout it by going to this website

a continuation of my last blog entry…last Friday I went to the Science Centre to view Saturn using the huge telescope the Science Centre has…
Saturn is the planet with the ring and its biggest moon is Titan…I managed to see Saturn…yellowish in colour…with Titan beside it….what a wonderful day…although it ends very late and I was only home at 12 something
Saturday was another good day…I ran wel.. I finish the run in approximately 24 mins…I ran without stoppin…quite an achievement huh? n was inspired to run everyday…but dunno wheter it will happen…anyway…saturday I finish The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown…oh inspired me to take the Da vinci Code tour….a very good book…
and even if Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene…I wouldnt mind…He is still the saviour and it is His teachings that matters in Life…

since my blog is relatively new…I’ll talk more about myself …yup watching stars is one of my favourite pastime. The sky in Singapore sucks actually as compared to Jakarta and Indonesia in general. I remember last year when I was at Prigi Beach, East Java, Indonesia, a very beautiful place. I could see the Orion Nebulae…I was so excited and I even managed to draw the constellations for that nite and went on to record the next two nights constellation pattern.
what u need when u go sky-watching is just ur eyes…specs…a clear sky free of light pollution..the darker the place the better it is…and the constellation book..if u’re interested in astronomy , red light to look at the book…
When I was doing it …it was very dark so I just draw based on what I see on the sky. I didn’t even have a light to see my paper…but the result of those drawings were beautiful…it look like the exact representation of the nite sky tat day…Can’t wait to go back to tat day…and tat place…I love beaches actually…I believe I’ve been to the most beautiful beaches in the world…Like the Beaches in the Isle of God, Bali and other beaches that were undiscovered in Java as well as Nice, France and Netherlands beach…which when I came..there was no sand…sand=ice….
Btw if u find my blog font size too small…if use Internet explorer…just go to view…and then text size and change it to largest….

rite…for those who is wondering what is Naruto…naruto is fishcake in Japanese and he is also the comic hero from the series Naruto…my favourite comic for the time being. Naruto is a Ninja and the series by Kishimoto is really very fun to read. It is not just funny but it also touch on issues we encounter on our everyday life like betrayal, everlasting friendship and more importantly as students…how to learn in the best way as well as student teacher relationship that is elaborated in details…Now there is only 247 chapters of Naruto and can be downloaded at many fast websites…just googled it ….
Anyway, I just found the book The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown…the book that were given very good reviews…So far so good but had to study for test so save it for the weekend la
anyway good luck to me for my Maths and Chem Test tis week…and to everyone that goes for the auditions for temasek Idol…
